I own and rock people’s faces off teaching ballroom dancing at Dancers Studio in St. Paul, MN. My husband and I compete professionally in American style and wrangle eight children in our spare time. I’ve been teaching and competing in ballroom dancing for over 25 years and have lots of opinions on it. I am an expert by any means, but there are quite a few dancers who are better than me and I have a solid knowledge of basic technique, so suck it.

– got my nails did again.  For some reason, I decided it would be easier (NOT CHEAPER) to get fake nails put on.  I must admit, it looks pretty swanky.  The place I just went to was AWESOME, but the awesomeness was expensive.  

Anyone have a recommendation for this ridiculous kind of thing?

– I'm drinking a cosmo.  It's delicious and surprisingly storng at the botomm.

– Practice practice practice.  I've been having a bit of an identity crisis in the Ballrooms (WHY DO I SUCK DO BAD?) and am working through it by WORKING THROUGH IT.  Take that, brick wall.  I wouldn't say it's fun at this point, but I think I might be sucking less.  Score.

– saw Iron Man 3 and let me tell you: EDGE OF MY F-ING SEAT.  Like, LITERALLY.  In order to not build up your expectations too much if you're one of the 7 people who didn't see it this weekend… Meh. 

– got the Gold PlusPlus card from Victoria's Secret in the mail.  This is hilarious because A) my credit limit with them is OUTRAGEOUS B) I never use it… except to buy a swimsuit every 3 years or so.  But I am a valued customer.

– can i reiterate how fun Wisconsin State Dancesport Championships were?  SO FUN!  Milwaukee is a total blast-y of a city; the competition is huge and excellent; the people are so awesome.  Recommend.  Let's all go there next year and then directly to Emerald Ball and then just die happy, okay?

    I know what you mean about having a ballroom crisis… I have been as well, ever since Indiana Challenge, for various reasons. What you say sounds very similar to how I have been feeling. Hopefully there is some kinda breakthrough soon.

    Is it a plateau thing or just a let-down from all the adrenaline and build-up to the comp? Either way: BOO.
    I’ve just found that while I’m decent on a certain scale, it’s a big-fish-in-a-little-pond deal, where really, I’m a freaking tiny fish in a super humongous ocean. Rar.
    Also, I’m sick of people complaining about factors that ARE dancesport competitions: judges, subjective judging, preconceived notions, being “better” than other competitors that are beating the complainer, politics, whatever. Instead of focusing on what everyone else is doing, can’t we all focus on getting better? Rar.
    Just keep swimming, I guess.
